  4. Ever  since   the 'birth' of the Amiga,
  5. different  kinds  of  PC emulators have
  6. been  available.   Some   of  the  most
  7. popular  ones  lately   have  been  the
  8. Vortex   ATOnce   and    ATOnce   Plus,
  9. offering   an   8/16    MHz  286.   The
  10. problem,  though,  is,  that  these are
  11. not   hardware-expandable,   and  their
  12. compatibility  isn't   sufficient.  Ac-
  13. cording  to some  dealers, only 75 % of
  14. PC  software  runs  on ATOnce, and that
  15. definitely  isn't  enough  to call it a
  16. reliable PC.

  18. The   solution   is  the  bridgeboards,
  19. which   ARE   hardware-expandable,  and
  20. actually offer you  a 'real' PC to work
  21. with.   The  bridgeboards  are, as most
  22. of  you  will know, only  available for
  23. the Amiga 2000.
  24.  
  25. Currently,  3  different   bridgeboards
  26. are  available:   The  A2088  (4.77 MHz
  27. 8088  XT),  the A2286 (8 MHz  80286 AT)
  28. and  the A2386 (20 MHz  80386 SX).  The
  29. A2088  and A2286 come  with a 5.25 inch
  30. floppy drive and MS-DOS  (3.3 I think),
  31. and  the  A2386 comes  with MS-DOS 5.0.
  32. All  cards  support   PC  partitions on
  33. Amiga harddisks.  A lot  of people have
  34. already  purchased one of  these cards,
  35. and others are, like I, thinking  about
  36. doing so.

  38. Now,  a  warning  to Danes:  Do  NOT, I
  39. repeat  do  NOT  buy  these   cards  in
  40. Denmark, the prices  are f......  high.

  50. The A2386 doesn't  seem to be available
  51. in  Denmark  (yet?),  so   no  price is
  52. listed  for that one.  The  Danish pri-
  53. ces  are taken from "Amiga  Warehouse",
  54. and  the  German prices are taken  from
  55. "BBM  Datensysteme".   As you can  see,
  56. going   to   Germany   to    buy   your
  57. bridgeboard  will  save you  many times
  58. the price of the ticket to Germany.

  60. Now,  what  I would like to see here in
  61. Top  Secret   is  a  complete review of
  62. these  bridgeboards,  so  if any of you
  63. have  tried  all 3, thus  being able to
  64. compare   them,  especially  whether or
  65. not buying  the A2386 will get you good
  66. value   for   money,  please  write  an
  67. article about it for Top Secret.
